DESCRIPTION:Look for the sign-up tables in the lobby. We hope you would be willing to help families that are experiencing homelessness by helping set up & take down rooms\, preparing and serving meals\, hosting evenings and overnights\, baking\, and do laundry. \n\n\n\nFamily Promise partners with over 30 interfaith congregations across the Valley to provide safe overnight shelter\, food and compassion to families in crisis. \n\n\n\nWAYS YOU CAN GET INVOLVED:\n\n\n\nRoom Setup | Sunday 4:00-5:00pmRoom Takedown | Sunday 6:30am-7:30am(3-4 people for each)Volunteer teams set up the accommodations on Sunday afternoon. This includes blowing up the beds\, making them\, and arranging the rooms for the families. Likewise\, when the families leave\, the following Sunday morning\, volunteers take down and repack all the beds. Rooms are rearranged for usual Sunday morning church activities. \n\n\n\nMeal Preparation | Sunday-SaturdayBring food at 4:30pmDinner is a hot meal and can be prepared at volunteer’s home\, at the church or take out can be brought in as a treat. Please plan to have meal delivered warm to serve 15 people. Crockpots are available. A menu for the week is planned and recipes provided upon request. \n\n\n\nServing Assistants | 5:00pm-7:00pm(2-3 people each night)Help with light food preparation\, serve the guests and clean up after dinner. The volunteers are encouraged to join a dinner table to fellowship with the families. \n\n\n\nOvernight Hosts | 7:00pm – 6:30am(1-2 people each night)The overnight hosts can spend time in fellowship with the families and assist the families with any needs they may have\, but are primarily there for emergencies. Joining the families for dinner is optional but encouraged.Private sleeping accommodations with large\, twin air mattresses with gel foam pads are provided along with bed sheets.On weekdays\, overnight hosts will wake the families up at 5:00am to get ready to board the bus back to the Scottsdale Day Center at 5:30am. On Saturday\, bus pick up is scheduled later-usually around 7:30am. \n\n\n\nLaundry Helpers (3-4 people)Pick up a basket of overnight host sheets\, launder and return the following day. \n\n\n\nVolunteer Bakers (3 people)Overnight guests love home-made baked goods! DESCRIPTION:What is a Stephen Minister? \n\n\n\nHave you seen the people who wear blue name tags on Sunday? Have you noticed their name tags identify them as a Stephen Minister? If so\, you may have wondered who or what is a Stephen Ministers? \n\n\n\nWho Are Stephen Ministers? \n\n\n\nYou may not know\, but Victory Lutheran church has one of the longest running Stephen Ministry programs in the nation. Our Stephen Ministry program began in March 1994 and from the beginning God has continuously used this program to bring Christ’s healing presence to those among us who are hurting.  \n\n\n\nIn fact\, God has called\, equipped\, and commissioned our Stephen Ministers to provide this vital one-to-one caring ministry here at Victory. Our Stephen Ministers come from many different backgrounds\, ages\, and walks of life\, but the one important thing we all have in common is that the Holy Spirit has given us a heart for bringing Christ’s healing love to hurting people. In short\, Victory’s Stephen Ministers are people just like you—caring Christians who want to make a difference in the lives of those going through difficult times. \n\n\n\nWhat Do Stephen Ministers Do? \n\n\n\nVictory’s Stephen Minister’s walks alongside a hurting person to provide one-to-one\, emotional and spiritual care—listening\, empathizing\, encouraging\, helping process feelings\, and connecting the person with God’s love. Our Stephen Ministers serve in this role as God calls them to put their spiritual gifts into action and touch people’s lives in powerful ways. \n\n\n\nHow Can I Find Out More about becoming a Stephen Minister? \n\n\n\nGood Question! Victory’s Stephen Ministry Program is hosting our annual Stephen Ministry lunch and learn on September 19th at 11:30am and anyone who is interested in finding out more about our program is invited to attend.  \n\n\n\nAt this gathering you will meet our current Stephen Ministers\, their spouses\, and others who are curious or interested in serving as a Stephen Minster. During our time together we will share great food\, information about our program and our plans for upcoming meetings/training. Victory will provide coffee\, lemonade and Sloppy Joes and we invite other attendees to bring a side dish or dessert to share! \n\n\n\nWe look forward to seeing you all there! DESCRIPTION:INTERFAITH HOMELESS EMERGENCY LODGING PROGRAM (I-HELP)\n\n\n\nI-HELP is a unique\, cost effective program that uses what churches have in abundance (space\, volunteers\, the desire to help the stranger) to provide overnight emergency shelter to those experiencing homelessness and case management to help them move from crisis to stability. I-HELP currently operates in Mesa\, Surprise\, and the Southwest Valley\, including Avondale and Goodyear. \n\n\n\n\n\nI-HELP Program at Victory is for homeless women without children in the Mesa area. \n\n\n\n\nNight shelter\n\n\n\nCold evening beverages\, morning coffee and lots of bottled water\n\n\n\nHealthy & hearty sack lunch provided for the next day\n\n\n\nCots\, air mattresses & linens for sleeping\n\n\n\nShowers with soap\, shampoo\, lotion and towels provided\n\n\n\n\nInterested in volunteering? Please contact: Bev Locke at 602-421-3279 \n\n\n\nVictory hosts I-HELP the 2nd & 4th Wednesday and Thursday of the month. Volunteers arrive between 5:00-5:30pm.
