Israel and The Church: A 5-Session Study

Israel is a “hot topic” whether on the agenda at the United Nations, or the reason for a college protest, or heated discussions on social media, or the subject of conversation among friends. This class will examine what God’s Word says about Israel — both its past history and in prophecy. We cover the fascinating story of how Israel became a nation again after nearly 2,000 years. We will also look at the ongoing struggle for peace since 1948 and at the ways churches are responding — from boycott/ divestment to Christian Zionism — and how we can, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.” (Psalm 122:6)

This study explores Israel’s historical and prophetic significance, addresses common misconceptions, and examines the varied responses within the church. Our Bible study consists of five engaging video sessions, presented by Dr. Carol Peters, each focusing on different aspects of Israel’s biblical significance and its complex history. The sessions delve into Israel’s formation as a nation after nearly 2,000 years, its ongoing struggle for peace since 1948, and the diverse responses from the global church community—from boycotts and divestment to Christian Zionism.

We challenge common stereotypes and explore the scriptural promises that relate to Israel, from the prophecies in Isaiah and Jeremiah to the historical accounts in the books of Kings and Chronicles. The study also addresses pressing contemporary questions, like the Christian’s role in peacebuilding and the ethical implications of political actions.
