Village Walk/Home Visits
Youth Empowerment Program – Our last Day
This day we walked Moshewane Village, made some home visits and prayed with those who were suffering physical or emotional pain. We also visited and prayed with Mama Boka (Elizabeth) who cares for her community by visiting the sick and helping others in need. She carries a heavy load day in and day out as well as caring for her grandchildren.
Prayers: Lord, Mama Boka is very special woman to be able to provide a form of hospice to the community. We ask that you will take care of her and be with her. That you will give her strength as she goes about to visit people and bless them. That she would be like a like a mother and a vessel to bring your light to the people that she blesses. Lord, walk with her and give her comfort and peace, wisdom, and help her to be patient and grow in your grace.
We pray for Mdidi and the long life he’s lived and all the pain he’s gone through. With the loss of his eyesight he has a lot of reason to be discouraged but he is faithful to you Lord. Heal him and see that he gets some help so that he can return to church and live out the rest of his life in Jesus’ name.
Lord, we pray for Glory and that you would just take away the depression and heal her. We pray that she would find a job and that You would make a way for her to be able to go to beauty school. We pray for restoration in her relationship with her brother and parents. Thank you for the Christian community that is reaching out to her. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Note: We were limited on taking photos of our walk and home visits out of consideration for the community and their privacy. So, the photos and video shown may lack a full picture of what our experience was like.
Reflection: What does it mean to you that God is in the process of creating a world without pain? And how does this change your view of suffering?
“I was just reflecting on the suffering that we’ve seen today, or maybe this trip. I’m reflecting on Mary’s prayer for the food today earlier. For the Lord to help us reconcile what we’ve seen in people’s suffering. We start off by looking at hope and seeing the answer to prayer or sharing our own stories. The Scripture from Revelation 21:4-5 says, ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, I am making everything new!'” – Pastor Todd
“How do we reconcile what we’ve seen? What I was thinking is that we really can’t do a whole lot. We see it and want to do something, but then we go home and they are still here dealing with it. Even though it’s heavy on our hearts now, eventually we do go on with our lives.” – Mary
“It may sound vague and impersonal, but last year Victory raised over $85,000 to help build the Impact Center. This year we raised another $20,000 and gave it to the mission Orchard:Africa that then empower the pastors and churches. It equips them to care for the vulnerable and suffering. We are making a difference. It may not be upfront, close and personal on a trip like this, but we are making a kingdom difference through the partnerships that Orchard:Africa has fostered and continues to foster. We can still be financially involved. Maybe part of what we can do when we get back is to communicate some of our experience to others.” – Pastor Todd
“Remember the Starfish Story of a little girl who was walking the beach. A whole bunch of starfish were washed up on the beach. She was running out trying to throw them back in the water. She threw one after another. Then her grandfather said, ‘What are you doing? You can’t save them all.’ She replied, ‘This one, I can save’ as she picked it up and threw it back in the water. And that is what this is all about. You can’t save them all, but you can help one. Sometimes just talking to a friend, a person that needs help is certainly making those individual connections.” – Jan
