Buongiorno VLC! I hope all remains well back in AZ for every one of you. Today was our last time in Malta, and our first stop in Italia! We all had to promptly wake up and head on the bus at 4 AM, in which we took a long ferry ride into the harbor of Sicily! While waking up early was not exactly a highlight, the views of the sunrise off the water of the Mediterranean Sea was most certainly one.
Arriving first in Noto to view some of their fantastic churches, we then moved into and explored Syracuse. Finally, we finished the day in Taormina, at which we saw the ruins of the Greek Theatre, an amphitheater dating back to the third century. It was then later renovated by the Romans who built the statues and columns at the site, and eventually lost the top row as it was removed by the Spanish Empire in the 16th century.
While there aren’t any historical locations of Paul’s work in the southern region of the country, his time here is seen in every corner. From just the three days he actually spent in this area after Malta (as stated in Acts 28,) he is given the primary credit for bringing the people of Sicily into their still very much alive faith in our Lord! Make sure to watch Day Four’s video to see the region’s beauty, many pieces of which are directly dedicated to our Christian faith, and the stories of the Gospel! Take care church family back home, praying the Lord shines on you his peace and love, that surpasses all understanding. Ciao!
