On Easter morning, Peter and John see the empty tomb and begin to believe something extraordinary has happened, yet John tells us they still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead. Mary, for her part, is given something even greater—the risen Jesus standing right in front of her—and still she does not recognize Him until He calls her by name. That is why Easter matters so much for us today: saving faith is not produced merely by seeing evidence or grasping facts, but by the living Christ who comes to us through His Word, opens our hearts to understand the Scriptures, and personally calls us from sorrow, confusion, and unbelief into resurrection faith.
